Gullvåg has not only depicted scenes from the poem, but has also actualised them as a reminder that the poem is also relevant for our own era. Gullvåg’s series consists of 20 circular paintings and 12 lithographs. The round form can function as a symbol for eternal repetition. The story goes on and on – but it also contains the seed of hope, that eventually the day will come when the death penalty is abolished globally.
